The Philippine Rice Research Institute, more popularly known by its shortened name PhilRice, is a Philippinerice research institute and a government-owned and controlled corporation based in Maligaya, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. Rice being the staple crop of the country, the research institute was created in order to develop a national rice research program in order to sustain and improve the gains of rice production. It was also created to improve the income and economic condition of the Filipino rice farmers, expand employment opportunities in the rural countryside, and promote the welfare of the Filipino people through self-sufficiency in rice productivity.
